The Church believes and confesses that among the seven sacraments there is one especially intended to strengthen those who are being tried by illness, the Anointing of the Sick: This sacred anointing of the sick was instituted by Christ our Lord as a true and proper sacrament of the New Testament. It is alluded to indeed by Mark, but is recommended to the faithful and promulgated by James the apostle and brother of the Lord (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1511).
Anointing of the Sick – By Appointment or in Hospital
If you have health issues, are having surgery, a chronic medical condition, or any other health need, please contact our parish office and make an appointment to receive the Anointing of the Sick for healing.
If you are in a hospital or local medical facility, please contact our parish office and they will help locate a priest to provide anointing in emergencies, or schedule an appointment for non-emergencies.
Our priests are at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater on a regular basis; when at Morton Plant, contact the Pastoral Care Office there by asking a nurse and they will help locate a priest for you.
Having Surgery Or Need To Be Anointed?
If you will be having surgery, please ask the priest after Mass to anoint you before you go to the hospital.
