Fr. Jesus Martinez

Parochial Vicar

frmartinez@stceceliachurch.org

To the faithful of Santa Cecelia I say that I am very happy to be a parochial vicar for your community. I hope to share with you the faith, and thus walk together in following our Lord Jesus Christ and build his Kingdom in this world.

I was born in Sagua la Grande, Cuba. Because of the Communist regime in Cuba, I never learned about God.  One day, a devout Catholic lay person invited me to visit the church. I eventually converted, and requested to be baptized, at age 17. I discovered my priestly vocation in my local parish at Sagua la Grande, when I saw the need to bring people to a greater knowledge of God and to experience for themselves what I experienced in my faith life. After a few years, I entered the San Carlos and San Ambrosio Seminary in La Habana, and studied Philosophy, and later attended the Pontifical University of Mexico to study Theology. I was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Santa Clara, Cuba on August 11, 2011. I joined the Diocese of St. Petersburg in June 2018 and have been serving for the last four years at Holy Cross Parish in Saint Pete and at St. Catherine of Siena in Largo. I have worked with both communities: Hispanic and English speaking. I love both communities for their dedication and service to the Church.
